Does your mountain bike feel wrong on the trail?
A mountain bike can feel fine in the car park yet become uncomfortable after repeated climbs or rough descents. A fit may help if you notice:
- Numb hands or too much weight through your palms
- Knee pain when climbing or pedalling for longer
- Saddle pressure, chafing or trouble staying seated on climbs
- Foot numbness or discomfort in your riding shoes
- Neck, shoulder or lower back fatigue
- A cramped cockpit or a position that feels too stretched
- Difficulty moving freely behind the saddle or over the front wheel
We look for a position that supports steady pedalling and leaves you room to move when the trail changes. A fit can improve contact points and balance, but it cannot replace riding technique or correct every source of pain.
What is a mountain bike fit?
An MTB fit looks at the points where you contact the bike, how you pedal, and how your setup affects movement and control. We consider your bike type, terrain, riding time, mobility and any ongoing discomfort.
Suspension sag, tyre choice, frame geometry and riding technique can also change how a bike feels on the trail. We discuss these factors and concentrate adjustments on what we can assess reliably in the studio.
What we assess and adjust
- Saddle height, fore aft position and tilt for seated pedalling
- Handlebar height, reach, width and controls
- Brake lever angle and hand position
- Cleat position, shoe fit and foot support, where relevant
- Pedalling movement and left to right differences
- Saddle support and pressure distribution, when useful
- Space to move between seated climbing and standing riding
- Dropper post and cockpit setup, where relevant to your bike
How your MTB fit works
01. Understand
We discuss your riding, goals, injuries and discomfort, then assess how your body moves.
02. Measure
Motion analysis and hands-on testing show what is happening at your feet, saddle and handlebars.
03. Refine
We adjust, retest and explain each change, then give you measurements and support after the session.
- Talk about your riding: We cover your bike, trails, events, discomfort and what you want to change.
- Assess your movement: We check mobility and how your body meets the bike.
- Record the starting setup: We measure your current position and review your pedalling on the bike.
- Adjust and retest: We make measured changes to the saddle, cockpit and cleats, then check how you respond.
- Review contact points: If needed, we look more closely at saddle pressure, shoe fit or foot support.
- Leave with a clear plan: You receive your measurements and recommendations, with time to test the changes on your usual trails.
